- Description
- In order to investigate the age and chronology of reef platform formation in Chagos, fossil corals cemented onto the reef platform were dated by the U/Th dating technique. Fossils were dated for the reef flats around Ile Anglais, Ile de la Passe, Boddam, Ile Fouquet, Jacobin, and Takamaka. Results show that no Chagos sample from these platforms is older than about 5.2 ka, indicating that the platform formation started after the Holocene sea-level high stand about 6.5 ka B.P.**Table 1:** U- and Th Isotope Concentrations, Ratios and Ages of Fossil Chagos Island corals.
