Diego Garcia Expedition

Start

Description
A brief research program was undertaken on Diego Garcia between March 4th and March 16th, 2015. The expedition made use of two existing expeditions to Chagos in February and March 2015. Two distinct research programs were undertaken: the first focused on collecting photo-transect images, which will be used to assess coral trait diversity to give insight into which reefs may be particularly sensitivity to stress and the second focused on assessing the extent of coral disease in Diego Garcia. Both research programs build on the aims laid out by BIOTA in the Interim Conservation Management Framework in several ways, which we detail in this report. Once the collected data has been analyzed the published research will contribute to the continued monitoring and conservation of the Chagos MPA.
