Description

A slender, graceful shark with very long narrow pectoral fins well in front of first dorsal fin, a long, conical snout, and large eyes. Body dark blue dorsally, bright blue on the sides, white ventrally.

Life history: Viviparous, with 4-135 (usually 15-30) pups per litter. Size at birth 35-44 cm total length; maximum size 380 cm TL.

Distribution: One of the most wide ranging of all sharks, being found throughout tropical and temperate seas from latitudes of about 60°N to 50°S. Oceanic and pelagic, found from the surface to about 350 m depth, preferring greater depths in tropical waters.
